Vision Iron County
Growth and Change in Iron County are Inevitable;
Planning for Our Future is Critical
In 2019, Vision Iron County commissioned the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute to administer a survey for Iron County residents. Respondents shared opinions on future growth and development in Iron County. Results, released in January of 2020, showed that community members are in agreement that the 12 Key Focal Points should be maintained as community priorities moving forward. All verbatim comments from over 900 respondents can be found at the end of the survey.
12 Community Priorities
- Manage natural resources: conserve, innovate, and plan
- Preserve area istas and science landscapes
- Designate areas for industrial growth and agriculture
- Improve transportation corridors to create a well-connected community
- Create a land use vision with a "placemaking" focus
- Keep state and federal partners informed of local efforts to avoid duplication of efforts
- Preserve historic buildings and districts
- Collaborate with other communities to maximize regional assets
- Develop walkable and mixed-use neighborhoods
- Support and strengthen Southern Utah University's and Southwest Technical College's local and regional positions
- Provide zoning for a variety of housing types
- Avoid "leap-frog" growth

Why
Vision Iron County Works
"The mission of Vision Iron County is to bring stakeholders together and create an atmosphere of collaboration. This can produce an environment where solutions to common, invisible challenges can be readily discovered and previously impossible solutions can be created. During one Transportation Team Meeting, a challenge of a large number of used bicycles was being left at the Enoch City Dumpsters. Some were in disrepair that could be fixed if someone had the time and desire. During the meeting, Matt Bolus of Cedar City Bike Works expressed a need for more bicycles his non-profit organization can use to teach bicycle maintenance. This conversation was very short and painless with the potential for a great partnership that might not have occurred without the venue of the Vision Iron County Transportation Team."
